Paws of Fury ... or animated Mel Brooks kid remake

Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank . . . a true slapped together money grabbing film if I've ever seen one. Now, here's the funny thing, I am by far one of the most lenient and easy going movie reviewers that you'll find. I mean, I hardly ever give a bad review and, to that end, this movie itself isn't really a BAD movie. It's a decent funny kid film that is well worth a watch through streaming. However, stick with it in streaming and stay AWAY from it in theaters. It is just a waste of your time and money there.

So how many people reading this have watched the immortal classic from Mel Brooks, Blazing Saddles? Film fans, THAT ... was a rhetorical question! Of course you've seen Blazing Saddles, you wouldn't be able to survive adulthood if you haven't seen Blazing Saddles (or any other Mel Brooks film). And, in the unlikely and quite impossible chance you haven't seen it . . . throw down your phone, tablet, or whatever it is you're reading this on, reassess your life, and go do what your parents should've done at an extremely innappropriate age for you, and go watch that movie!!!

Now, the reason for that tangent on the immortal film that is Blazing Saddles is because of this . . . Paws of Fury and Blazing Saddles are literally the same film. The difference being that Paws of Fury is animated and made for kids. Yeah, instead of cowboys and the old west like in Blazing Saddles, there's animated animals (mostly cats) and set in some strange stereotypical Asain backdrop. I'm not even sure if it is supposed to be Fuedal times, or other ancient time, or just something different than what we know altogether because in this film you will also see a modern day contemporary city setting. This may sound strange but this was a major hallmark of the ending in Blazing Saddles as well. You will also find this film extremely meta. That being that many of the characters break the fourth wall, talk about themselves as movie characters, talk about their own movie, talk about movies themselves, and of general movie rules therein. Again, this was another halmark of Blazing Saddles. You'll just find that the story is quite literally a cut and paste from Blazing Saddles all in all. For kids I'm sure it will be entertaining ... then again, even my own 8 year old was more interested in seeing Super Pets when prompted with the faccet of seeing this film, so even for kids I don't know if it really hits the nail on the head.

But there are literally dozens of parallels between this movie and Blazing Saddles taking away any originality from the story and robbing the characters of creating their own humor, jokes, and world. Any famous, infamous, or scandalous scene from Blazing Saddles has an animated version of it in this film, and I mean all of them. Even the iconic scene; "The Sherrif is a N*#&@! ... What'd he say? He said the Sherrif is nearer". Obviously, in Paws of Fury, with different word-play! And the funniest part of all this is . . . Mel Brooks himself is in the film. And not only is he in the film, he essentially reprises his role from Blazing Saddles as the governor of the state to being the leader of the territory in this film. Less drunk and promiscuous than in Blazing Saddles too, of course.

So stay away from this film in theaters, rent it if you must, but unless you are just a crazy crazy fan of cats and just can't help yourself then just wait for streaming! This is your Movie Master and until next time, have film with the films!
